The FITP president cleared up any doubts about the Serbian’s participation in Turin. He then added: “Musetti deserves a spot in the top eight; he already deserved it in 2024”
After the Paris Masters 1000 and Felix Auger-Aliassime’s overtaking of Lorenzo Musetti in the Race, there was only one question: Will Novak Djokovic be at the ATP Finals in Turin? Given his absence last year—and considering he hasn’t played a single indoor match—the doubt was understandable. If he had not participated, both the Italian and the Canadian—regardless of their position in the Race—would have taken part in the ATP Finals. FITP President Angelo Binaghi resolved the doubt by issuing a statement three days before Thursday’s draw (at 12 p.m.): “We have confirmation that Djokovic will play in Turin; Musetti deserves to be among the top eight, and he already deserved it in 2024.”
So, in addition to announcing the addition of 700 seats for each session of the Finals, Binaghi shared news that makes Lorenzo Musetti’s campaign in Athens even more important. The Italian will in fact have to win the 250-level tournament—organized by Djokovic’s family (the Serbian will be the No. 1 seed there)—to qualify among the world’s top eight. The suggestion that a last-minute withdrawal by Nole might open the door for the No. 9 in the Race seems to have officially vanished.
