The world No. 2 takes the court against Gaston at 9 a.m.: the match will be broadcast exclusively on Eurosport, available on DAZN, Timvision, and Discovery+, as well as on the new HBO Max platform. Lorenzo faces Collignon at 1:30 a.m. Sonego and Darderi are also in action

It’s finally Jannik Sinner’s turn. The Italian, world No. 2 and two-time defending champion at the Australian Open, will kick off his campaign for a historic three-peat (it would be only the second in the Open Era after Djokovic’s 2019–2021 run) on Tuesday, January 20. With the schedule now official, Jannik’s debut is set for 9 a.m. Italian time, the first match of the evening session at Rod Laver Arena, against Hugo Gaston. Where can you watch Sinner’s match? The match, like all Australian Open matches, is broadcast exclusively on Eurosport, available on DAZN, Timvision, and Discovery+, as well as on the new HBO Max platform. Sinner has won both of his previous matches against the Frenchman, though they date back to 2021, on the indoor courts of Marseille and the hard courts of Miami. But even before the top contender for the title takes the court, there will be plenty of Italian tennis to watch—on both the main and secondary courts.

Lorenzo Musetti, ranked No. 5 in the world, will open his Australian Open campaign against Raphael Collignon. The two will play the first match of the day session at 1:30 p.m. Italian time on Margaret Court Arena: with no prior meetings, the Italian is seeking the only Grand Slam quarterfinal still missing from his career. Shortly before him, Luciano Darderi will take the court for his first match on 1573 Arena at 1:00 p.m. against Cristian Garin. The No. 22 seed will play at the same time as Lorenzo Sonego, who faces Carlos Taberner on Court 13 in a match that would determine Musetti’s potential second-round opponent. Luca Nardi, meanwhile, will take on Yibing Wu on Court 7 in the third match starting at 1:00 a.m.: Errani and Paolini will open the day’s action on Court 7 in doubles against Lumsden/Tang. Rounding out the Italian contingent is the only other Italian in the women’s singles draw alongside Jasmine: Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who will play the second match starting at 1:00 p.m. on Court 15, at approximately 2:30 p.m., against Julia Grabher.

THE BIG NAMES—  The third day of first-round matches will complete the lineup of the world’s top players. On Rod Laver Arena, defending champion Madison Keys will open the action at 1:30 p.m. against Ukraine’s Olinykova. This will be followed by one of the most intriguing first-round matches, featuring left-handers Ben Shelton, world No. 8, and Ugo Humbert, fresh off his run to the final in Adelaide. Closing out the day, following Sinner, will be Naomi Osaka against Antonia Ruzic. Big names are also on the Margaret Court Arena schedule, featuring two of the most dangerous players in the women’s draw. Elena Rybakina, WTA No. 5, takes on Kaja Juvan immediately after Musetti; Belinda Bencic, No. 10, will open the evening session (9:00 a.m. Italian time) against Katie Boulter. The Swiss player is coming off victories at the United Cup and the satisfaction of being the third player to return to the top 10 after giving birth, alongside Clijsters and Serena Williams. Stefanos Tsitsipas, a 2023 finalist, will close out the day against Shintaro Mochizuki. Among the day’s matches, highlights include Dimitrov vs. Machac, the final match on the Kia Arena in the middle of the Italian morning, and Prizmic vs. Duckworth, the third match on Court 6. The winner would be Sinner’s potential opponent in the second round.
