Jannik, who has already arrived in Turin where he paid a courtesy visit to the Candiolo Institute, could end up in Group A or B alongside: either Zverev or Djokovic; either Fritz or Shelton; either de Minaur, Auger-Aliassime or Musetti
Jannik Sinner is already in Turin. After a day of rest in Monte Carlo, following his victory in Paris and his return to the top of the world rankings, the Italian arrived in the Piedmontese capital by car yesterday evening, ready to defend the Finals title he won last year. Sinner will be staying in the presidential suite of the Principe di Piemonte hotel and today, around 3 p.m., he visited the Candiolo Institute, a center of excellence in oncology, to bring a little joy to those fighting cancer.
The draw for the Finals groups is scheduled for Thursday at 12 noon, both for the singles and the doubles, where Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli are in contention. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, seeded number one and number two, will lead their respective groups, which this year will be dedicated to Jimmy Connors and Bjorn Borg, and obviously cannot be drawn in the same group. Next, the number 3 seed (Alexander Zverev) and number 4 seed (Novak Djokovic) will be drawn in pairs, followed by another pair, the number 5 seed (Taylor Fritz) and number 6 seed (Ben Shelton), and finally the world number seven, Alex de Minaur, and either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Lorenzo Musetti. The first player drawn from each pair will be placed in Group A, the other in Group B. There are virtually no restrictions, except for the division into pairs, which prevents both members of the same pair from being in the same group: Zverev and Djokovic, for example, cannot be in the same group.
Why is Sinner seeded No. 2?— Sinner, despite currently being world No. 1, will be seeded No. 2 at the Finals. There are two reasons for this. The first is that the Finals take into account the Race and not the official rankings, and in the Race, Alcaraz is first with 1050 points ahead of Sinner. However, this would not change anything, as the ATP has announced that the points for the 2024 Finals will be released before the start of the tournament, and in that case, Alcaraz and Sinner will have exactly the same points and be in the same positions in the Race.
