PSG’s race to the final
PSG finished the initial phase of the Champions League in 15th place, with four wins, one draw, and three losses, scoring 14 goals and conceding nine. With 13 points, PSG finished three points behind Aston Villa and the top eight, missing out on direct qualification for the final phase. Teams finishing between 9th and 24th place qualified for the playoffs.
Despite not impressing during the group stage, PSG came to life in the knockout rounds, starting with a stunning 10-0 aggregate victory over Brest in the playoffs. They secured a 3-0 away win before recording a memorable 7-0 victory at home. Then came Liverpool and a France-England battle that went on for a long time. Liverpool won 1-0 in Paris before PSG returned the favor in Merseyside. The last game of the round of 16 went to penalties, which PSG won in style, securing a 4-1 advantage.
After facing one of the betting favorites, the Premier League champions, PSG eliminated another English team, Aston Villa. Unlike the match against Liverpool, there were plenty of goals and even more talking points against Villa. PSG won 3-1 in Paris before suffering a 3-2 defeat in Birmingham, with the final score 5-4.
The semi-final saw them face Arsenal, with the French side once again taking the lead. PSG scored in the opening minutes of the first leg in London and went on to win 2-1 in the French capital for a 3-1 aggregate victory, sending Mikel Arteta’s Gunners reeling.
Tip – Both teams to score and PSG to win at 4.50 on bet365, at 4.50 on Goldbet
Bet explanation: you win if PSG wins the match in regular time, but Inter scores at least one goal.
Inter’s run to the final
The Serie A side finished the regular Champions League season in fourth place, behind Liverpool, Barcelona, and Arsenal. They recorded six wins, one draw, and one defeat, scoring 11 goals and conceding just one, making them the best defense in the competition after eight games.
Finishing in the top eight guaranteed Inter a place in the knockout stages, where they eliminated Dutch side Feyenoord with an impressive 4-1 aggregate victory. Inter secured qualification in the first leg with a 2-0 away win, before adding a 2-1 victory at home. The Italians’ reward for this result was a clash with Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
Bayern are traditionally one of the main contenders in the Champions League and many bookmakers had them as favourites against Inter to go on and win the trophy at their home stadium. But at this level, little goes according to plan. Inter ruined a home final with a breathtaking 2-1 victory in Germany, before a 2-2 draw at home saw Bayern knocked out 4-3.
The last time we saw Inter in the Champions League, we enjoyed a stunning 7-6 victory over Barcelona over two legs. The first leg ended 3-3 in Spain, before Inter sent a warning to PSG with a 4-3 victory after extra time, ending Barça’s dreams. Inter are a team that concede few goals, and fans will be hoping that trend continues in the decisive match.
If you’re also expecting goals in the final, you could bet on the first scorer.
OPTA betting data shows that Lautaro Martínez has scored eight goals in his last seven UEFA Champions League appearances for Inter, with 13 shots on target in those appearances (2.2 per 90 minutes). The biggest stage is ready for him.
Tip – Martinez to score: 3.00 at bet365, 3.05 at Goldbet
Bet explanation: you win if Lautaro scores during the 90 minutes.
Predictions and odds PSG – Inter Milan
Now that we have set the stage for a match that will attract audiences from around the world, let’s complete our predictions. In the quarterfinals and semifinals, PSG scored a total of eight goals, while Inter found the net 11 times in the same period.
Head-to-head statistics show that these teams have never met in an official match. What better occasion to end this situation than the Champions League final, but which team will win? Statistics associated with the final show that only one team has scored in each of the last six finals, a curiosity that dates back to Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool in 2018. Are you expecting another tense match?
Inter’s last two victories in the Champions League final were a 1-0 win over Benfica in 1965 and a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in 2010. Finals are usually tense events, and I keep that in mind when choosing my best bet. Follow the statistics, trust Inter’s experience, and bet on a narrow victory.
Tip – Inter to win to nil: 6.00 at bet365, 5.25 at Goldbet
Bet explanation: The bet wins if Inter wins the match in regular time without PSG scoring a goal.
