Will Korpatsch surpass herself again?
The German men performed as expected at the French Open. The women, on the other hand, experienced an almost dramatic decline. Six DTB players made it into the main draw and five of them had to pull out of their respective opening matches. In our Zheng Qinwen vs Tamara Korpatsch betting tip, we take a look at whether the last German can continue to fly the flag
Angelique Kerber, Laura Siegemund, Eva Lys, Jule Niemeier and Tatjana Maria – these are the five DTB athletes who bowed out of the singles competition at Stade Roland Garros in the first round. Now hopes rest solely on Tamara Korpatsch, but one should not be too presumptuous and expect too much from the Hamburg player.
She is the clear underdog in her second round match. The prediction between Zheng Qinwen and Tamara Korpatsch can only be that the Chinese player will win. She is currently number eight in the WTA rankings and quite a few experts believe she can advance well into the second week at the French Open 2024. The 29-year-old German’s prospects are correspondingly mixed
Zheng Qinwen – statistics & current form
Current world ranking position: 8
Position in the seeding list: 7
Zheng Qinwen is one of the newcomers we will certainly be hearing a lot more about in the future. In general, tennis is currently very popular again among Chinese women and the 21-year-old is the absolute spearhead. The young Chinese player, who incidentally lives in Barcelona, celebrated her breakthrough into the world class last year
First tournament wins last year
She won her first two WTA tournaments in Palermo and then in Zhengzhou. She reached the final of the WTA Elite Trophy at the end of the year. This was to continue in the new year. At the Australian Open in Melbourne, Zheng Qinwen reached her first Grand Slam final of her career, but was beaten in two clear sets by Aryna Sabalenka.
However, these results alone show what the 21-year-old is capable of. However, she is still lacking the really big results this season. After all, it was enough to reach the quarter-finals in Dubai and again in Rome. The Chinese player has also won four of her last five matches. Unfortunately, she lost to Coca Gauff in the quarter-finals in the Italian capital.
Nevertheless, we still think that the odds on a Chinese victory between Zheng Qinwen and Tamara Korpatsch are more likely. In the first round in Paris, the Chinese player did not show any weakness and ended the career of local heroine Alize Cornet. She didn’t have to stretch herself too much in a 6-2, 6-1 win and extended her record at Stade Roland Garros to 5-2 in total
Tamara Korpatsch – statistics & current form
Current world ranking: 79
Position in the seeding list: unseeded
Tamara Korpatsch is an absolute fighter. The 29-year-old from Hamburg has had to work hard for her successes, perhaps more than many others. That’s why she can now enjoy the current phase of her career all the more, after a few weeks of pain in which she almost had to forgo her entire preparation for the French Open
With little preparation in round two
Before the second Grand Slam tournament of the year, Tamara Korpatsch had not played a match on the WTA Tour for almost two months. Her only match was in the Bundesliga. Back problems made precise preparation for the French Open impossible. It is therefore particularly impressive that the Hamburg native won her first match in the main draw at the Stade Roland after a tour de force
If you like, this is the biggest success of her career after her tournament victory in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and together with her match wins at Wimbledon, Melbourne and Flushing Meadows. However, we don’t expect her to go any further. Her upcoming opponent is probably too strong for that, which is why we are sticking with our prediction of a victory for the Chinese player between Zheng Qinwen and Tamara Korpatsch.
If the German wants to reap any rewards, she will have to surpass herself, as she did in the first round against Ashlyn Krueger. It was a close match, which had to be decided in the match tie-break in the third set. At 8:8, Tamara Korpatsch made a double fault, but still managed to take the set 11:9 and with it the match. At least the Hamburg player can now go into the second round completely relaxed after this victory
Zheng Qinwen – Tamara Korpatsch Direct comparison / H2H result
The Chinese player is no longer completely new to the WTA Tour. However, she has made huge strides forward in her short time as a professional tennis player, overtaking Tamara Korpatsch in the process. The German has long struggled in qualifiers and Challengers, something the 21-year-old from China has hardly ever had to do. The first duel between these two women will therefore take place on Thursday
Zheng Qinwen – Tamara Korpatsch tip
It’s those matches where it’s hard to find the right odds because the bookies think it’s a one-sided game. Betting on an easy win and even a 2:0 victory for the Chinese player makes no sense given the lower odds. However, we think it is very likely that Zheng Qinwen will win this match.
That’s why we have to look for suitable odds with a corresponding value in the Bwin app. We can only find these in the handicap of the games played. We therefore have to consider how many games the German team will win. We can easily imagine a 6:2 and 6:3, after all, the Chinese player won even more clearly against Alize Cornet. Therefore, a bet on a handicap of -6.5 between Zheng Qinwen and Tamara Korpatsch might be a good one
We can’t imagine that Tamara Korpatsch will be able to keep this encounter open, even if she puts everything into this match and fights passionately for every point. We think that she won’t make it into the third round of a Grand Slam tournament at the French Open either. On balance, however, we have decided to play the betting odds between Zheng Qinwen and Tamara Korpatsch at less than 17.5 games
