Next setback for the bottom team from Sheffield?
From game to game, hope is fading for the bottom team in the English Premier League. The Blades once again played well during the week, but in the end they came away empty-handed. Time is gradually running out for Wilder’s team and they urgently need wins to keep their mini-chance of staying in the league alive. This weekend’s clash between hosts Sheffield United and Aston Villa will take place at the venerable Bramall Lane, with betting odds of just over 1.60 clearly favoring the visitors
After 22 matchdays, the hosts have a paltry ten points to show for their efforts. The visitors from Birmingham are in fifth place in the table ahead of this weekend and have legitimate hopes of a place in the UEFA Champions League. However, a game at the bottom of the table should not be a problem for them. However, Emery’s side have stumbled a little recently and the game will certainly not be a walkover for the favorites. Nevertheless, we see a clear tendency and make our prediction for Sheffield United vs Aston Villa in favor of the visitors
Sheffield United – stats & current form
The Blades from Sheffield are unlikely to be able to do more than hold out. From a sober point of view, it is hard to imagine staying in the league with just ten points from 22 games. The Blades are only the fourth team in PL history to have ten or fewer points after 22 games. The defensive department in particular is not fit for the league, as Sheffield have already conceded a whopping 54 goals. In Premier League history, only Barnsley in the 1997/98 season have surpassed this figure after 22 games (57 goals conceded).
The offense is slowly getting back on track
Nine points behind the safety margin is not entirely hopeless, but without wins, relegation cannot be avoided. At least the offense has become more effective in recent weeks, as the Blades have scored six goals in their last four league games – and yet they have only managed to pick up a single point. The offense has improved, but the defense is still inadequate (only one clean sheet this season). With this in mind, the odds for the match between Sheffield United and Aston Villa early on Saturday evening are good for betting on both teams to score.
Chris Wilder has been back at the Blades for a few weeks now. He led the club back to the Premier League and caused a sensation with a convincing defensive performance. In the first 35 PL games under his wing, 54 points were collected and only 33 goals were conceded. In the last 39 games, he conceded 30 defeats (!) and conceded no fewer than 66 goals.

Aston Villa – stats & current form
In recent weeks, Aston Villa’s fortunes have soured a little, but the interim results are still extremely positive. 43 points from 22 league games is the best average for more than a decade. However, Emery’s side have only picked up a meagre five points from their last five league games and have therefore had to vacate their place in the top four. During these five games, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez had to make nine saves. In comparison, the Villans had previously collected 13 points from five games and conceded just four goals
Very successful against promoted team
During the week, top striker Ollie Watkins scored for the tenth time this season and celebrated a small anniversary in the process – it was his 50th goal in English top-flight soccer. However, he did not have much reason to celebrate in the face of a 3:1 defeat against Newcastle United. With ten goals and ten assists, the England striker is the life insurance in the Villians’ game anyway. His services will also be in demand on Saturday to continue their good record against the promoted side. Under Unai Emery, Aston Villa have won six of their seven league games against promoted teams. The only exception? A 1-1 draw in the first leg against the Blades.
Recent results have been far from convincing, but we still feel comfortable recommending the visitors in the game between Sheffield United and Aston Villa. The difference in quality cannot be denied and the home side’s poor form is also an important argument for us. Playing well and still not scoring is a huge challenge, especially for the head.

Sheffield United vs Aston Villa head-to-head / H2H record
In the last eleven Premier League games between these two teams, the Blades from Sheffield have only managed two wins, while the Villians have won six. However, the fact that betting on the Blades in the last two PL home games between Sheffield United and Aston Villa has given the bottom side hope in the current Premier League season. Sheffield were also able to celebrate a win in the Championship in the last duel and have thus won three times in a row at home against the team from Birmingham.
Sheffield United – Aston Villa betting tip
The home side’s record is one of the worst since the introduction of the English Premier League. It is therefore not surprising that the bookmakers are offering odds of over 5.00 for a home win in the match between Sheffield United and Aston Villa. Although the Blades have been playing better of late, without a winning record the mental burden increases from game to game. Due to the home side’s improving form, however, bets such as “Both teams to score” or “Over 2.5” are a good option.
The visitors from Birmingham have recently lost a bit of ground and yet the role of favorites against the bottom team is absolutely fine. The betting tip on the visitors is definitely worth a try, we see an even better chance/reward ratio in the Sheffield United vs Aston Villa match in the prediction on the visitors and goals from both teams. The Villians have had a few defensive problems recently (nine goals conceded in five games) and therefore the odds of over 3.00 are very exciting
