Will LFC find their way back to success?

Liverpool FC are losing their shine. Once upon a time, the Reds were described as the ultimate in the league after City, but there is no sign of that now. LFC coach Jürgen Klopp’s team is stumbling and lagging behind the high expectations in the Premier League. After 19 matchdays, Liverpool have only 29 points to their name.

Klopp has a points average of just 1.53 – his worst points tally as LFC coach since his debut season in 2015/16, and Liverpool have gone winless in the league three times in a row. The Reds now visit Wolves on Saturday looking to end that negative streak. For Wolverhampton vs. Liverpool, betting odds of up to 1.90 are even offered for tip 2.

It was just a fortnight ago that the two clubs met in the FA Cup. Liverpool came back from a draw in the first leg to win 1-0 at Wolves and progress to the last 32. In the meantime, however, the Reds have already been eliminated from the FA Cup.

In the league, Klopp’s team is now aiming for another win at Wolves. Considering how weak Wolverhampton have been this season, it is obvious to place bets on a Reds win again. In eight of the last nine competitive matches between Wolverhampton vs. Liverpool, a prediction on LFC paid off anyway.

Wolverhampton – Statistics & current form

Wolves have been a fixture in the Premier League since the 2017/18 season. Therefore, the season so far is all the more surprising. After 20 matchdays, Wolverhampton are down in 17th place in the table and are in danger of staying in the English top flight at the start of the second half of the season.

Wolves have won only four of their 20 league games so far. Two of these four victories – both against relegation rivals – came in the last five league games. Nevertheless, head coach Lopetegui’s team will start Saturday’s match against Liverpool as underdogs.

Just a few weeks ago, Wolverhampton lost to the Reds in the FA Cup. Despite home advantage, they lost 0:1. This was the ninth time in a row that Wolves have failed to win a competitive match against Liverpool FC. The 17th-placed team in the Premier League is now facing the next setback.

Continues league woes against LFC?

Wolves have lost each of their last eleven matches against LFC in the English top flight since December 2010. If the negative streak continues this time around, Wolverhampton vs Liverpool betting odds of 1.90 are available on the Reds. Bets on this are obvious, especially as Wolverhampton have lost four of their last five league games at home anyway.

The lack of offensive power in the team also speaks against a prediction in favour of the Wolves. With only twelve goals in 20 matchdays, Wolverhampton have statistically the worst attacking department in the English top flight. Daniel Podence is one of the few bright spots in Wolves’ attack with his five goals.

Last week, the goal-scorer was only used as a wild card, with head coach Lopetegui instead relying on Jiménez as the sole striker in a 4-3-3. It is quite possible that the Spaniard will start the match against LFC with a similar starting eleven. With Oliveira, Neto, Kalajdzic and Traore, four players are unavailable to Wolves this weekend due to injury.

Predicted Wolverhampton line-up:
Sa; Semedo, Collins, Kilman, Bueno; Nunes, Neves, Lemina; Traore, Cunha, Podence

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

At the beginning of the season Liverpool FC won the Community Shield against Manchester City. Since then, the team of LFC coach Jürgen Klopp has lagged behind the high expectations on the national stage and probably remains without a title win this year. LFC have already been eliminated in the cup competitions, but in the league the Reds are currently in no-man’s land.

Ninth in the Premier League, Liverpool are already ten points adrift of a place in the top flight ahead of Saturday’s game against Wolves. Although LFC still have a catch-up game to play, the chances of a comeback in the league are vanishingly small. It therefore remains to be seen where Klopp’s team will finish the 2022/23 Premier League.

Internationally, Liverpool are at least still represented and will tackle the round of 16 match against the royals from Madrid in just under three weeks. For the time being, therefore, the focus remains on the league competition, in which LFC recently went winless three times in a row. Among other things, there were two bitter defeats on foreign soil.

Are the Reds winless away from home again?

Not only did they suffer two league defeats in a row against clubs like Brentford and Brighton. The Reds also conceded six goals against the two league rivals – three in each away game. This has already worsened their record on foreign soil to 2-2-5 and a goal difference of 11:16.

The Reds are nevertheless confident going into Saturday’s match. After all, LFC have won their last eleven league games against Wolves. With another win, Liverpool will equal their record against West Brom from 2010 – back then, there were twelve wins in a row against their league rivals from West Bromwich.

Jürgen Klopp will be without six players this weekend due to injury. Carvalho and Phillips, on the other hand, are still question marks. Compared to the starting eleven that last played in the FA Cup against Brighton, changes at LFC cannot be ruled out.

Predicted Liverpool line-up:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Matip, Robertson; Thiago, Bajcetic, Elliott; Salah, Nunez, Gakpo

Last matches played by Liverpool:

29/01/2023 – Brighton 2 – 1 FC Liverpool

Wolverhampton – Liverpool Direct comparison / H2H record

This is the 113th time the two clubs have met. Liverpool currently lead the head-to-head comparison against Wolverhampton with a record of 58-18-36. The Reds have won eight of their last nine competitive matches against Wolves. One match, on the other hand, ended in a draw.

This season, Wolverhampton and Liverpool not only met in the first leg of the Premier League, but also in the 2022/23 FA Cup, with Liverpool beating Wolverhampton 3-1 in the league. In the two cup matches, however, the aggregate result was 3-2 for LFC, with the most recent match at Wolves being won 1-0.

Wolverhampton – Liverpool Tip

Liverpool have played a mixed season so far and therefore had to bow out of the championship race early on. Nevertheless, the league competition is by no means insignificant for LFC. Especially as there is still a chance to limit the damage – provided that Klopp’s eleven defies the form crisis and gets back on track.

The match against Wolves comes in handy. LFC have won every league game against Wolverhampton since December 2010. It is quite possible that the winning streak will be extended in Saturday’s match. Just a fortnight ago, Liverpool beat Wolves in the FA Cup.

After three bitter setbacks in the Premier League, we expect LFC to show some defiance this time around. The Reds shouldn’t struggle too much against offensively weak opponents from Wolverhampton and bag three points in the league. We’re going for a six-unit bet on Wolverhampton vs Liverpool, with decent odds on the visitors
