Does the negative trend continue for CD Tenerife?
During the regular season of La Liga 2, CD Tenerife suffered three defeats in a row. Nevertheless, the traditional club from the Canary Islands was able to defend a starting place for the promotion play-offs and now gets the next chance for promotion. In the semi-finals of the play-offs, “Tete” will meet their neighbours from Las Palmas in the Canary derby.
In contrast to Tenerife, UD Las Palmas goes into the promotion play-offs in top form. Not only has “La Unión Deportiva” won its last five matches in the second Spanish league, but it is now unbeaten since March 2022. It is quite possible that the form curve will also be underpinned in the play-offs.
Las Palmas have already beaten CD Tenerife in the first and second legs of the regular season. All the more surprising, therefore, is the underdog role in the semi-final first leg against the Canary neighbours.
Tenerife – Statistics & current form
The end of the season could not have gone worse for CD Tenerife. Despite a series of defeats, the white-and-blue team had a lucky escape, finishing fifth in the table and booking their ticket for the promotion play-offs. In the semi-finals of the play-offs, “Tete” already face a difficult hurdle against their Canarian neighbours from Las Palmas.
Tenerife will benefit from home advantage in the first leg and will start as slight favourites. However, the role of favourite should not be overestimated in view of the recent home record. At home, “Tete” have only recorded one win in the last seven games. In return, the Canaries have already suffered four defeats in this period.
They even conceded four goals in their last two home games. There was no sign of the supposed defensive bulwark. Statistically, however, CD Tenerife had one of the strongest defences in the league, conceding 37 goals in 42 match days. Only second division champions Almería conceded fewer goals than Tenerife this season.
No derby win for Tenerife again?
There was no clean sheet against their upcoming opponents in either the first or second leg. Tenerife conceded at least one goal in both matches. It is quite possible that they will also concede a goal in the Canary Islands derby on Wednesday evening. Even a defeat cannot be ruled out.
Tenerife have lost three of the last four derbies against Las Palmas. Betting fans who still want to bet on Tenerife vs Las Palmas can get odds of up to 2.45 if they are successful.
Head coach Luis Miguel Ramis will only have to do without midfielder Pablo Larrea for the semi-final first leg of the promotion play-offs due to injury. Major changes from the starting eleven that conceded a 2-1 defeat to Cartagena FC in the season finale are not expected.
Tenerife’s likely line-up:
Soriano; Moore, Sipcic, Ruiz, Jeremy; Michel, Corredera, Jamelli; Gonzalez, Gallego, Zorrilla

Las Palmas – Statistics & current form
After a mixed first half of the season, UD Las Palmas found their winning ways in the second half and have fought their way into the promotion play-offs with an impressive season-ending run. Head coach Garcia Pimienta’s team won a total of nine of their last eleven matches. Two games, however, ended in a draw.
La Unión Deportiva” excelled especially in the last five match days of the regular season, which set the tone for the season, and picked up a total of 15 points. As fourth in the table, Las Palmas will now go into the play-offs with a broad chest and aim for a return to the Spanish top flight.
The last time Las Palmas was in La Liga was in the 2017/18 season, since when the Canary Islands club has been languishing in the second division. Las Palmas have stayed out of the promotion race for the last three seasons, so their performance so far has been all the more surprising.
Will Las Palmas take the recent momentum with them?
Against CD Tenerife, Las Palmas are rated as slight underdogs in the upcoming Canary Islands derby. Considering how strong the visitors have been in recent weeks, the high odds on a derby coup for UD Las Palmas are well worth it.
Especially as Las Palmas have also been convincing away from home. Since February 2022, Las Palmas have not lost any of their last seven away games in La Liga 2. Pimienta’s team has even won four of the last six of these games. In the last two away games, Las Palmas even kept their clean slate.
Just like their neighbours from Tenerife, Las Palmas will start the Canary Islands derby with as many players as possible. Pimienta will only have to do without Enzo Loiodice for the match in Tenerife, UD Las Palmas have no other absentees.
Predicted line-up of Las Palmas:
Valles; Lemos, Suarez, Navas, Ramirez; Rober, Gonzalez, Mfulu, Viera, Moleiro; Mujica

Tenerife – Las Palmas Direct comparison / H2H balance
In the last 28 competitive matches between the two clubs, CD Tenerife leads the direct comparison against UD Las Palmas with a record of 9-11-8. “Tete” conceded three of the eight derby defeats in the last four matches against Las Palmas, including two defeats in the current season.
In any case, Tenerife have not won a Canary Islands derby against Las Palmas since May 2019. In the last six derbies, “Tete” are on a record of 0-3-3 against their neighbours, which makes them all the more surprising as favourites in the upcoming derby.
Tenerife – Las Palmas tip
CD Tenerife go into the promotion play-offs in the worst possible shape. The fifth-placed team in La Liga 2 not only conceded three defeats in a row in the season-ending spurt, but has also won just one of its last seven home games in the second division. In the semi-final, the Canary Islands will now face their neighbours from Las Palmas.
In contrast to the “Tete”, UD Las Palmas is brimming with self-confidence. Especially in the last few weeks, the team of head coach Garcia Pimienta has been convincing. Las Palmas have won their last five matches in La Liga 2 and are unbeaten since March 2022.
If the visitors from Las Palmas continue their recent run of form, it is obvious that the in-form underdogs will also master the semi-final first leg in the promotion play-offs. The high odds on a Las Palmas victory therefore have value.
