One more step to Bundesliga return
One more game until the return to the Bundesliga. That’s what HSV fans are dreaming of after the 1-0 win in the relegation play-off at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. But caution is advisable in any case. We remember back to the relegation last season, when Holstein Kiel won 1-0 in Cologne and the Geißböcke rocked the second leg with a 5-1 victory to secure their relegation.
But that this second leg is now completely open can no longer be said. Before the first leg, the chances between HSV and Hertha were probably 50:50.
However, it is only half-time and the Berliners will probably throw everything into the scales to prevent the super-GAU. However, we think that the home side will be favourites in this match on Monday and therefore we dare to predict before the kick-off between HSV and Hertha BSC that the Hanseatic city will once again be playing first-class football in the coming season.
Tim Walter’s team can’t help but play forward in front of 57,000 spectators. The Berliners are forced to act offensively, because only a win can save the old lady. Therefore, it should be an open exchange of blows. But because there were not even many scoring chances in the first leg, we tend to place a tip on less than 2.5 goals between HSV and Hertha.
HSV – Statistics & current form
For a long time, Hamburg have avoided putting the word promotion in their mouths. The development of a young team, the youngest in German professional football, should be brought to the fore. Since the Reds have had it in their own hands, they have taken a more offensive approach to the subject on the Elbe and sporting director Jonas Boldt makes it clear that the long process of development should now also be crowned.
With a winning streak into the Bundesliga
The conditions could not be better. HSV can even afford a draw on Monday, but have recently celebrated six wins in a row. Before that, there was a home defeat in the DFB Cup against SC Freiburg, a Bundesliga team. Nevertheless, the Hanseatic League will not be put off by this. We can even imagine playing the odds on another Hamburg win between HSV and Hertha.
The first leg last Thursday certainly didn’t have the greatest level. But that’s not surprising, because after all, there was a lot at stake. From a neutral point of view, however, you have to say that the Reds were the better team and tried to play football. It was Ludovit Reis who scored the winning goal for the Hanseatic League with a misplaced cross, causing a collective cheer among the HSV fans.
There will probably be no changes in the starting eleven. Bakary Jatta complained of muscular problems and Jonas Meffert was also slightly injured. But both have since been cleared. Only Maximilian Rohr could be a doubtful candidate and possibly be replaced by Josha Vagnoman. HSV will only be missing Anssi Suhonen and Tim Leibold.
Predicted line-up of HSV:
Heuer Fernandes – Muheim, Schonlau, Vuskovic, Heyer – Rohr, Meffert, Reis – Jatta, Glatzel, Kittel – Coach: Walter
Last matches played by HSV:
1st Bundesliga Qualification
20/05/2022 – Hertha BSC 0 – 1 Hamburger SV
2nd Bundesliga
15/05/2022 – Hansa Rostock 2 – 3 Hamburger SV
07/05/2022 – Hamburger SV 2 – 1 Hannover 96
30/04/2022 – Ingolstadt 0 – 4 Hamburger SV
23/04/2022 – Jahn Regensburg 2 – 4 Hamburger SV
Hertha – Statistics & current form
The old lady is reeling. Felix Magath’s team desperately needs a sense of achievement to play more liberated again. Maybe it’s a penalty saved or the opening goal at Volkspark. The heads must be clear. The Berliners’ advantage now is perhaps that they have nothing left to lose, because the mass of football fans expect Hertha to be relegated.
Too many missed match balls
Three match balls have been missed by the capital city side in the home stretch of the Bundesliga. With the defeat in the first leg of the relegation, Hertha have now waited four games for victory. These are not good conditions if you absolutely have to win on Monday. Therefore, before the kick-off of the second leg between HSV and Hertha, the forecast goes in the direction of relegation for the Berliners.
This is also due to the fact that the old lady only fought back in the first leg in sometimes over-hard duels. Football-wise, it was very weak. No build-up play, hardly any danger of scoring – on Monday, the first division team will have to show a completely different face. But the players seem to have almost resigned themselves. After the defeat in the Olympiastadion, the players fled straight to the dressing room without facing the loyal crowd or getting into the team spirit for the return match.
In terms of personnel, Felix Magath has a few additional options again on Monday. Santiago Ascacibar will return to the starting eleven after serving his yellow ban. Marco Richter, Stevan Jovetic and Kevin-Prince Boateng are also expected to play a bigger role, according to the coach. Marcel Lotka, Alexander Schwolow, Rune Jarstein, Davie Selke, Marton Dardai and Kelian Nsona are still certain to miss out.
Projected line-up of Hertha:
Christensen – Plattenhardt, Kempf, Boyata, Pekarik – Tousart, Ascacibar, Mittelstädt, Serdar, Boateng – Jovetic – Coach: Magath
Last matches played by Hertha:
1st Bundesliga Qualification
20/05/2022 – Hertha BSC 0 – 1 Hamburger SV
Bundesliga
14/05/2022 – Borussia Dortmund 2 – 1 Hertha BSC
07/05/2022 – Hertha BSC 1 – 2 Mainz 05
30/04/2022 – Arminia Bielefeld 1 – 1 Hertha BSC
24/04/2022 – Hertha BSC 2 – 0 VfB Stuttgart
HSV – Hertha Direct comparison / H2H balance
83 times the traditional clubs from the two biggest cities in Germany have now faced each other on the pitch. After the first leg last Thursday, the direct comparison is now completely even. Both teams have 35 victories to their name. The two rivals have shared the points in 13 games.
On Monday, the 90 minutes will start at 0:0. But that is too little for the old lady from the Spree. In the first leg, Hamburger SV was the better team. Not that HSV set numerous footballing accents, but the overall package was simply more convincing compared to the Berliners and so the 1-0 away win was also deserved after a goal by Ludovit Reis.
HSV – Hertha Tip
It’s all about everything. The big showdown at Volkspark is coming up. Only one of the two opponents will play in the Bundesliga next season. According to the findings from the first leg, it will be HSV, but it’s not quite that simple in football. Suddenly, Hamburg have something to lose again and that could well prove to be a stumbling block on Monday.
However, it must also be said that the Red Shirts have been very stable under Tim Walter and have not let themselves be put off by setbacks.
The Berliners have had to take so many blows recently. These must now be shaken off. Basically, the old lady can only win and that’s the way it has to be, otherwise they will be pushed through into the second division. After four games without a win, the optimism on the Spree is quite restrained. We think a league change is on the cards on Monday and have therefore decided to play the betting odds on double chance 1X between HSV and Hertha.
