Does Barty make short work of the Osaka conqueror as well?
+The “Barty Party” continued in the third round of the 110th Australian Open women’s singles. Local hero Ashleigh Barty recorded her third 2:0 victory in a row and made it to the last 16 for the fourth time in a row. Now the two-time Grand Slam winner, who has never advanced beyond the semifinals at this Grand Slam in her home country of all places, is looking to take the next step.
Instead of facing defending champion Naomi Osaka, however, Ash will now have to deal with her defeater Amanda Anisimova. The young American caused a big surprise and knocked the Japanese out of the tournament. Nevertheless, in the run-up to the round of 16 between Ashleigh Barty and Amanda Anisimova, the odds are clearly in favour of the Australian
This round of 16 will certainly not be a walk in the park for the Australian. Nevertheless, it is an advantage for the local hero that she was able to reach the round of the last 16 with much less stress, while her opponent left plenty of energy in the three-set thriller in the third round.
Against this background, we see the greatest value in Ashleigh Barty against Amanda Anisimova in the betting on a clear victory for the Australian.
Ashleigh Barty – Statistics & Current Form
Current ranking in the world rankings: 1
Position in the seedings: 1
The 25-year-old Australian Ashleigh Barty has already reached practically all relevant milestones in her career. In 2019, she won her first-ever Grand Slam at the French Open before winning the Wimbledon Championships last summer.
She was also crowned world champion at the WTA Finals in 2019. Meanwhile, she won a total of three other major titles at WTA 1000 tournaments – all of them on hard court, by the way, which also suits her despite not yet reaching the finals at the Australian Open and US Open.
The first female Australian Open winner in 42 years?
The 25-year-old is also ranked number one in the WTA world rankings, which is why the lady, who once hung up her tennis racket in 2014 to play professional cricket for two years, ultimately only has one huge goal left: the overall victory at the Australian Open, the Grand Slam in the country of her birth.
But in Melbourne Park, of all places, where her home crowd so longingly wishes for the first female Grand Slam winner since 1978 (Chris O’Neil), her nerves have so far always failed her in the decisive rounds.
Only eight games conceded in three rounds
Once again, however, Ash has been unstoppable, at least in the early rounds. With three incredibly dominant performances that were more than worthy of a world number one, she stormed into the last 16 in record time, dropping just eight games between them.
Ashleigh Barty against Amanda Anisimova is a correspondingly good bet that the “Barty Party” will continue in the second week of the tournament and that the Australian can take the next step. With monster scores like the 25 points she made in round three with just 27 first serves played (93%), it should be hard to take a service game away from her.
Amanda Anisimova – Statistics & current form
Current ranking in the world: 60
Seeded position: unseeded
The 20-year-old American Amanda Anisimova travelled to Down Under as an unseeded player, where she already presented herself in impressive form at the preparation tournament.
The WTA World No. 60 won all five games at the Melbourne Summer Set 2 and secured only the second singles title of her young career on the WTA Tour.
Anisimova has won all eight singles in 2022
Anisimova seamlessly carried the momentum of her tournament win into the Australian Open, where she first struggled in her opening match against qualifier Arianne Hartono. After trailing 1-0, she secured a 2-1 victory before the world number 60 sent Belinda Bencic, the first player from the seeded list, home 2-0.
In the third round, everything was set for the 20-year-old young hope to have to pack her bags. Against the two-time Australian Open winner Naomi Osaka, however, Anisimova showed an unbelievable show of will in the deciding set and saved herself from partly hopeless positions into the tiebreak, which she then won 10:5.
46 winners and eight return winners against Naomi Osaka
The bookmakers still don’t really believe that the American will finally become the favourite.
The reason for this is surely that the outstanding return player may well have difficulties getting into the return game against Ash, in which she helped Naomi Osaka, who only put 61% of all first serves into the field, to a staggering 54 winners – including eight direct return winners.
Ashleigh Barty – Amanda Anisimova Direct comparison / H2H record
Head to head: 1:0
In 2019, both ladies, who were both very surprising to advance this far at the time, faced each other in the semifinals of the French Open. Anisimova won the first set in a tiebreak but then went down 3-6 in each of the following two sets. Barty went on to reach the final, where, as we all know, she secured her first Grand Slam.
Ashleigh Barty – Amanda Anisimova Tip
When it comes to Ashleigh Barty against Amanda Anisimova, the prediction goes in favour of the so far so dominant Australian with the almost unbreakable serve. But the American challenger already proved her incredible return qualities against Naomi Osaka, with which she could certainly make the world number one sweat.
If she doesn’t break at the right moment, Ash will have a clear advantage on serve alone. The value for the bet on the next clear Barty victory is correspondingly large.
We are therefore betting on the Australian with an Asian handicap of -5.5 games, for which betting odds of 2.29 are available on Ashleigh Barty against Amanda Anisimova.
