Who will be confident in the cup for the second half of the season?
The first weekend on the island is all about the cup. The FA Cup is on the agenda and the big names of English football get into the action in the third round. Among the big names you can definitely count Everton FC, as nine-time champions. December, however, was marked by match cancellations for Rafael Benitz’s boys. They did not play a competitive match for the entire second half of December.
But the hosts of the upcoming match did not fare any better in December. Hull City played their last competitive match on 18.12.2021. The scheduled matches against Blackburn and Sheffield fell victim to the flood of cancellations in England.
Also because of these conditions, the match Hull vs. Everton offers interesting betting odds and some excitement. Rhythm is currently a foreign word for both teams. The bookmakers see the first division team from Liverpool as favourites, as expected.
Hull – Statistics & current form
The club from Kingston Upon Hull, a city of 257,000 inhabitants, is back in the second division. After a year of abstinence they achieved direct re-promotion last season. This season they are three points clear of the relegation zone after 24 games. In their own stadium, they have picked up twelve points from eleven games. In total, they have only won six games this season. In the “Football Association Challenge Cup”, FA Cup for short, the match against Everton FC will be the first appearance.
The second win was a long time coming
Hull’s start to the new season and division went unexpectedly well with a 4-1 away win at Preston North End. However, only three days later they failed in the “EFL Cup” against third division Wigan Athletic on penalties. This was followed by a long dry spell with nine games in a row without a win. It was not until the beginning of October that Middlesbrough FC could be defeated and the first home win and thus the second success of the season could be celebrated. Another five-game losing streak followed before Hull beat Barnsley, Birmingham and Cardiff, opponents on a par with them in the standings.
Slight upward trend
During this period, the team celebrated four wins in a row and remained undefeated for a total of six matches. Only the last appointment before the unscheduled long break in December was lost against Nottingham Forest. But at least Hull managed to climb away from the relegation places of the “EFL Championship”. In total, including the ELF Cup match, they scored only 21 goals in 25 games. Eight of those goals, however, were scored in the past eleven games. An upward trend in this statistic is therefore unmistakable. The team’s top scorer is the 20-year-old Keane Lewis-Potter with a total of ten goals (six goals, four assists) in 25 games.
Predicted line-up of Hull:
Baxter – Elder, Greaves, Bernard, McLoughlin – Docherty, Smallwood, Honeyman, Longman, Lewis-Potter – Magennis
Last matches played by Hull:

01/01 2022 – Blackpool 1 – 0 Hull
12/18 2021 – Nottingham Forest 2 – 1 Hull
12/11 2021 – Hull 2 – 2 Bristol City
12/04 2021 – Reading 1 – 1 Hull
11/27 2021 – Hull 2 – 1 Millwall
Everton – Statistics & current form
Bad tongues could claim that Everton FC could start the new year “rested”. They played four games between 01 and 16 December. However, they were also affected by several match cancellations.
Last Sunday, the boys from “Goodison Park” were finally allowed to play the 18th game of this year’s Premier League season. However, the start of the year against Brighton & Hove Albion went thoroughly wrong. In the home game against the “Seagulls” Everton were 2-0 down after only 21 minutes and lost 3-2 in the end.
Only one win from twelve games
The “Toffees” have only managed one win from the past twelve games and a total of six meagre points. So it is not surprising that they are far behind their own standards in the Premier League with 19 points. In their nine away appearances this season and in the league, Everton have scored only eight goals. In the cup, the “EFL Cup”, they played twice away and scored two goals in both appearances. However, in round three they lost to second division Queens Park Rangers on penalties.
Hopeful Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Hopeful for 2022 is the return of striker Calvert-Lewin, who scored a goal in each of the first three league fixtures. He has missed 18 straight games since the end of August due to a broken toe. Last season, he was the team’s top scorer with 21 goals and five assists in 39 games. He also scored in two of three FA Cup games. In the upcoming Hull City vs Everton match, Unibet offers interesting odds on him to score.
Predicted line-up of Everton:
Pickford – Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Digne – Gordon, Doucoure, Allan, Gray – Rondon, Calvert-Lewin
Last games played by Everton:
Premier League
01/02 2022 – Everton 2 – 3 Brighton
12/16 2021 – Chelsea London 1 – 1 Everton
12/12 2021 – Crystal Palace 3 – 1 Everton
12/06 2021 – Everton 2 – 1 Arsenal London
12/01 2021 – Everton 1 – 4 Liverpool FC
Hull – Everton Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
The two teams last met on matchday 29 of the 2016/2017 Premier League season. The club from Liverpool won the duel clearly with 4:0. Hull were relegated at the end of the season, while Everton secured qualification for the Europa League. The two teams have met seven times since 2010, with both teams scoring in four of the games and at least three goals in three. So you shouldn’t neglect a potential tip on “both teams score” in the Hull vs. Everton clash.
The omens of this match are special, as the last encounters always took place in the Premier League. So far, they have only dueled once in the cup. After a 1-1 draw in the first game, the deciding match took place almost exactly 58 years ago. Everton FC won the tie at the time.
Hull – Everton Tip
With both teams having had a long break in December and each having started 2022 with a defeat, it is difficult to predict a final result in the Hull vs Everton match. Although the bookmakers see the visitors from the Premier League ahead, Hull showed better performances recently, especially in their own stadium, and should therefore not be underestimated.
They have scored two goals and taken seven points in each of their last three home games. Everton, on the other hand, have scored in each of their last five games, including their visit to Chelsea London. Furthermore, they have scored at least three goals four times in their last five games. Hull have scored in three of their last five games. The last time both teams played to nil was in November.
Because of these previous statistics, we are not betting on the outcome of the Hull vs Everton match and recommend betting on at least three goals. Both teams are hungry for a win and are desperate to progress to the next round of the cup. With plenty of negative results behind them, a real cup fight could develop. It is to be expected that Hull can and will stand up to the favourites and five-time cup winners.
