Will the Eagles secure their playoff spot?
Just how quickly everything can turn around this NFL season is evident in the Washington vs. Philly clash that awaits us on Sunday. While the Capitals were still ahead of the Eagles three days ago and thus in the last playoff spot in the NFC, the signs are now exactly the opposite.
Philadelphia, at 8-7, are in seventh and final playoff spot in the conference and could all but clinch a spot in the postseason with a win, while Washington will need a minor miracle to pull it off.
The last 14:56 loss against Dallas might not have helped the confidence of the team around quarterback Taylor Heinicke either, so they go into the duel against Philly as clear underdogs. They already lost to them a fortnight ago with 17:27.
A similar result for NFL Match Week 17 would not be a big surprise, which is why our prediction for Washington vs. They should also not allow more than 17 points again.
Kickoff of the early Sunday game of NFL Match Week 17 is at 19:00 in Washington on Sunday. The match can be watched live in the RedZone on DAZN.
Washington Football Team – Statistics & Current Form
WFT or as fans would rather put it since Sunday night: WTF. Because what their team delivered in the 14:56 in Dallas was more than just underground. The team was still missing some important pillars, but they shouldn’t go down like that.
Of course, this raises the question of what Washington still has up its sleeve this season. The analysis of the betting pool is clear: not much. Because the Eagles are the next team to come to the capital that is currently in very good form.
Washington inferior in all respects
These two teams met a fortnight ago and Philly came away with a 27-17 victory. Washington shouldn’t get much closer this Sunday, as they are far behind the Eagles both defensively and offensively.
In fact, the Washington football team has scored 101 fewer points but conceded 89 more in their 15 games so far. That makes a difference of 190 points or, put another way, 12.67 per game. That margin is expected again on Sunday, in Philly’s favour.
Neither is Taylor Heinicke the solution for the future
The realisation that Taylor Heinicke is not the solution at the quarterback position that he once seemed to be is particularly bitter for the franchise. He has already thrown 14 interceptions this season, even though he didn’t even start all the games.
All these points taken together, there is only one prediction for Sunday: on Washington vs. Philadelphia, a tip on Philly is the clear bet of our choice. Due to the favourite status, sub-points can still be included as a combo.
Key Players:
QB: Taylor Heinicke
RB: Antonio Gibson
WR: Terry McLaurin
TE: Ricky Seals-Jones
K: Joey Slye
Philadelphia Eagles – stats & recent form
The Eagles are now the clear number two seed in the NFC East and well on their way to the postseason. A win in Washington in NFL Match Week 17 would almost tighten up that scenario. A lot would have to go against them to keep them out of the playoffs.
But how good are the Eagles really? Their last three wins came against the Jets, Washington and the Giants. All teams that have a clearly negative record and are also in very poor form.
Eagles are dangerous for any team
Due to their mobile double threat quarterback Jalen Hurts, however, the team can be dangerous to anyone else in the league. But much like this is true for the Ravens and Lamar Jackson, this style of play has its downsides.
If the opponent succeeds in limiting the Eagles’ running game, then defeats against weaker teams are also possible. We don’t expect that for Sunday, though, as Washington seems broken – both internally and on the field.
Defence as a terrific backstop
The development of Philly’s defence is particularly impressive. While still very shaky at the beginning of the season, their defence now allows the fifth-fewest yards of any team (320.2). Their 21.2 points conceded is also a strong figure.
For Sunday, we even expect them to allow no more than 17 points, which also makes betting on subpar points an alternative. Combined with an almost certain Eagles win, we can make the most of the odds for WFT vs. Philly.
Key Players:
QB: Jalen Hurts
RB: Boston Scott
WR: DeVonta Smith
TE: Dallas Goedert
K: Jake Elliott
Washington Football Team – Philadelphia Eagles Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
In 2020, the Eagles had the personnel concerns that Washington is now facing. Back then, both games went to the Capitals and in 2021, the Egales should now turn the tables. Anything less than a clear success would be a surprise.
Especially after Washington got such a beating in Dallas and showed a weak figure in all parts of the team. The 27:17 per Eagles from a fortnight ago is therefore also a good indication of the final result this weekend.
For Washington against Philadelphia, betting on the Eagles -4 + under points is a combination that offers a lot of potential. That’s because Washington is very unlikely to score much against this stout defense.
Washington Football Team – Philadelphia Eagles Tip
The stats already say a lot. Not only do the Eagles score 6.7 more points per game, they also concede almost 5.9 less. That clearly speaks for a double-digit success for Philly in this matchup.
However, since the Eagles also have their scoring problems on some days, we wouldn’t set the handicap too high. For WFT vs. Philly, a prediction on the Eagles -4 is an option, as is a combination with under-scoring. The second option gives great value.
Alternatively, betting on few Washington points is an option in this matchup. They never scored more than 20 points in their last five games and we don’t expect them to get close to that mark on Sunday either. There are interesting betting odds on Washington vs. Philadelphia for this tip as well.
