Will Searle fail again against Noppert?
One of the secret favourites in the ongoing 2022 World Darts Championship is undoubtedly Ryan Searle. The world number 15 of the PDC plays a sensational year so far and before the World Championship only missed the big coup at the Players Championship Finals 2021. Only in the final Searle missed to win the title against a strong Peter Wright.
Before Searle had eliminated in the PC Finals already top players like Cross, Whitlock and Gurney from the competition. So it is no surprise that the 34 year old Englishman is one of the favourites for the World Championship 2022. At the start of the tournament Ryan “Heavy Metal” Searle already showed his power against William Borland.
After all Searle celebrated a “White Wash” against the youngster Borland who sent the “Ally Pally” into ecstasy with his nine-dart finish in the round before. In the sixteenth final the Englishman has to play against his fear opponent Danny Noppert
Till now Ryan Searle has never won a match against his upcoming opponent. In five attempts, he has suffered five defeats. Nevertheless, the best bookmakers see “Heavy Metal” as the favourite in the round of 32 and offer odds of 1.62 on Searle vs. Noppert for tip 1.
Ryan Searle – Statistics & current form
The Englishman has shown impressively over the year that Ryan Searle has the potential to keep up with the elite of the Professional Darts Corporation. In the year before still on the 38th rank of the PDC Searle is now already on rank 15 which is especially due to the course of the season so far.
In this calendar year Ryan “Heavy Metal” Searle already reached the quarterfinals of the World Grand Prix and the 34 year old fought his way into the final of the Players Championship Finals. Only against Peter Wright, the world number two of the PDC, Ryan Searle’s Major fairytale failed.
Worthy of praise was the average Ryan Searle threw during the PC Finals. From the round of 16 to the final of the Players Championship Finals 2021 Searle always had more than 90 points in the average. Heavy Metal” followed up on those statistics in his tournament opener against William Borland.
Can Searle still be stopped?
Against Borland, Searle had an average of 92.45 with a total of three 180s. The checkout rate of 42.86% was also remarkable, which was mainly due to the strong first set. After all, “Heavy Metal” had a double quota of 75% in the first set, with the highest checkout being a “60”.
After the “white wash” – a win without losing a set – against Borland, it is not at all surprising that Searle is also rated as favourite against his fear opponent Danny Noppert. The last time the two players met, it was a clear win for Noppert at the 2021 European Championships.
Although Searle played with an average of 101.03, it was ultimately not enough to defeat an in-form Noppert for the first time. The double quota was the decisive factor. After all, in his last encounter with Noppert, Searle hit doubles only four times in a total of 18 attempts and thus had a miserable checkout rate of 22.22%.

Danny Noppert – stats & recent form
Danny Noppert is in the last 16 of a PDC World Championship for the third time in his current career. In his last two attempts at a World Championship Noppert failed in the third round. So for the first time the Dutchman aims to reach the last 16 in the “Ally Pally” and the match against Searle will come in handy.
Danny Noppert has already won against the Englishman twice this calendar year. At the Players Championship 20 Noppert eliminated his upcoming opponent from the last 16. Only three months after the victory at the PC20, the Dutchman also prevailed against Ryan Searle at the European Championship 2021.
Surprisingly, there was even a clear victory for Noppert, who delivered a sensational performance with an average of 101.21 and a checkout rate of 62.5%. If the world number 18 continues this in the World Championship duel, it cannot be ruled out that Noppert will extend his record against Searle.
Noppert is unpredictable
In the tournament opener, Danny Noppert did not deliver the best performance. Nevertheless, an average of 88.42 with a checkout rate of 27.78% was enough to enter the sixteen-finals of the 2022 World Cup. Opponent Jason Heaver only had an average of 85.19 over the match.
To master the match against Searle, Noppert will have to improve considerably compared to the last round. Otherwise, the Dutchman may face the same fate as Borland, who suffered a “white wash” against the in-form Ryan Searle.
If “The Freeze” shows an act of defiance and prevails over his upcoming opponent for the third time this year, betting odds of 2.38 are paid out on the Dutchman for Searle vs. Noppert.

Ryan Searle – Danny Noppert Direct comparison / H2H record
This is the sixth time these two players have met in their current careers. In the five previous matches, Danny Noppert has always prevailed so far. This was the case in the most recent matches, where Noppert secured a 6-4 win in the PC20 and a 10-4 win in the 2021 European Championships.
In previous years, the Dutchman prevailed over “Heavy Metal” Searle at the 2020 World Grand Prix, the 2019 Players Championship Finals and the PC5 in February 2019.
Ryan Searle – Danny Noppert Tip
Ryan Searle has tasted blood after his first appearance in the final of a major – the Players Championship Finals 2021 – and is aiming for a major coup at the 2022 World Cup. After a commanding start to the tournament against William Borland he now has to play his fearful opponent Danny Noppert in the round of the last 32.
So far, the Englishman has never won against his upcoming opponent. Searle has failed miserably in five attempts so far, including two matches in the current calendar year. With his recent upward trend in form, Searle’s role as favourite is nevertheless understandable.
In contrast to Noppert, who mastered his tournament opener after a lacklustre performance, Searle took the momentum from the PC Finals 2021 with him into the 2022 World Cup. Against Borland, there was even a “white wash”.
We therefore tend to think that “Heavy Metal” will win the match against the Dutchman as well. With a stake of seven units, we dare to bet on Searle vs. Noppert at odds of 2.12 on a win by Searle with at least two sets to spare.
