Will it be a preliminary decision in the NFC East?
While the Cowboys can take a big step towards winning the division on Sunday, the Giants with backup QB Mike Glennon are still waiting for their fifth win of the season.
Last week, Dallas had an important win against their division rivals Washington, while the Giants went down to defeat against the Chargers.
Are we in for an explosion of the Cowboys offense? We take our cue from the first Week 5 clash between the New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys and venture a guess on a similar outcome. Since both teams are based in the NFC East, they will meet for the second time this season. The first matchup was clearly won by “Americas Team” with 44:20. With another win, the team from Texas would almost make the playoffs and then, with a 10-4 record, perhaps even be able to intervene in the fight for the “1st seed” of the NFC Conference. Therefore, we see the odds of 1.90 on a win for the visitors by at least eleven points in the game New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys as being loaded with value.
Kickoff of the game is at 7:05pm at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It will be broadcast live on DAZN’s Redzone.
New York Giants – Statistics & current form
It was clear before the season that the Giants would not be a contender this year. After a long injury layoff, star running back Saquon Barkley returned, but was unable to match his pre-injury performance, in part due to a fragile offensive line. He is a long way from a 1,000-yard rushing season like 2018 & 2019.
Quarterback Jones learned new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett’s offense quickly. He was given good receivers to work with, but the quality on offense is still not enough. After the 10:30 loss to the Buccaneers in Week 11, OC Garrett was immediately relieved of his duties. With a 4-9 record, the “Big Blue Wrecking Crew” currently ranks 14th in the NFC and last in the NFC East. The playoff hopes have long been buried, the next upheaval is imminent. Head coach Joe Judge is also under discussion, according to rumours.
What does the Offense have to offer?
Let’s put it this way: 21 points against the Chargers reads well, but it can’t hide the fact that they had no chance against the playoff contenders. Two touchdowns were scored in the last five minutes of the game when L.A. saved some players. They ran for 136 yards against the NFL’s second-worst rushing defence.
The offense has little big-play potential, especially with M. Glennon at quarterback, plus he doesn’t bring the rushing upside that Jones has been able to consistently bring to the offense this year. Glennon completed just 47.2% of his passes for 191 yards with two touchdowns and one interception against L.A. Glennon will also be the starting QB in Week 15 against the Cowboys as Daniel Jones remains injured.
What about the Defense?
At 26th, the defense, like the offense, ranks in the bottom third of the NFL. The losses of safety J. Peppers and LB B. Martinez, among others, should not be overlooked. Nevertheless, they have a well-stocked secondary with LB McKinney, OLB Ojulari and CB Bradberry, for example. The weak point since the beginning of the season has been the pass rush. Only 25 sacks have been recorded by the defence. Only in 17.4% of the dropbacks they were able to put the opposing quarterback under pressure. That is the second worst value in the entire league.
Precisely because of the last point, one has to seriously think about the boys from the Big Apple. So in the New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys clash, our prediction is that Cowboys QB Dak Prescott will have little pressure to fear from the Giants defence, allowing him to unleash his qualities as a top-5 passing quarterback in this league.
Key Players:
QB: Mike Glennon
RB: Saquon Barkley
WR: Kenny Golladay
TE: Evan Engram
K: Graham Gano
Dallas Cowboys – Statistics & current form
After the opening loss against the defending champions, the Cowboys won six games in a row. After that, however, there was a phase in which QB Prescott’s offence was not always convincing. This was certainly also due to Prescott’s calf injury, which affected him for weeks. They lost three of the following four games. Among others surprisingly against the Broncos and the Raiders. Against the Saints in Week 11 and the Washington football team, the offence looked better again, but the “explosion” that you really wait for with these playmakers was still missing.
Against Washington, the red zone was particularly lacking in penetrating power. Six trips into the red zone resulted in four field goals and only one touchdown. Still, we believe the Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the NFL and it’s only a matter of time before we see another true breakout game.
How good is this offense really?
Let’s look at the playmakers: they have a top-5 quarterback in Dak Prescott, a top-10 running back in E. Elliott and an equal deputy in T. Pollard. In addition, tight end Dalton Schultz is on pace to “Carrer High” in terms of receiving yards. And last but not least, with Michel Gallup, Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb, they have one of the best receiver trios in the entire NFL. So there’s no shortage of “weapons” in this offense.
Prescott had one of its worse games in Week 14, with two interceptions and only one touchdown. There’s a lot to suggest that won’t happen again. To that end, the offensive line is one of the better ones in the league and will be able to play to its strengths against the Giants.
How far can Dallas go this year?
With a win against the Giants, the Cowboys can almost secure the division title. With a 10-4 record, they could be within touching distance of the NFC leaders, who all currently have a 10-3 record. Looking at the remaining schedule after Week 15, twelve wins in the regular season seem possible. Anything is possible for Dallas in the playoffs with this offense and an improved defense compared to last year.
Key Players:
QB: Dak Prescott
RB: Ezekiel Elliott
WR: CeeDee Lamb
TE: Dalton Schultz
K: Greg Zuerlein
New York Giants – Dallas Cowboys Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
This matchup occurs twice per season due to both teams being part of the NFC East. In the first matchup of the year, the Cowboys won clearly. In nine duels since 2017, the Cowboys have had the better end in their favour eight times. Only the second meeting last season was won by the Giants, with QB Prescott missing on the Cowboys’ side.
Even though the Giants defence only allows an average of 24 points, we recommend keeping an eye on the betting odds on the Dallas Cowboys to score more points than the Giants. Our prediction is that they will break the 30-point mark, just as they did in the first meeting.
New York Giants – Dallas Cowboys Tip
On Sunday night in the New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys game, a tip on a Cowboys handicap win seems realistic. The offense has the playmakers it needs and the Giants’ defense is vulnerable, in part due to injuries. Game one between these two teams showed that Dallas can move the ball well on offense against the Giants. We expect the same here. Plus, the loss of starting QB Daniel Jones weighs even more heavily on the Giants’ side, considering backup QB M. Glennon will be up against a much-improved Cowboys defense.
It is also recommended to play the odds of 1.80 on a touchdown by E. Elliott on the New York Giants against the Dallas Cowboys. He is flexibly involved as a running back and receiver in the offence and has come up empty in the last two games.
