Can Granada confirm their upward trend in the derby?
Game day 17 in the Spanish LaLiga is also the penultimate game day in the calendar year 2021. This round is concluded with a small derby in Andalusia. Last season’s promoted team Cadiz welcomes Granada. Not only geographically are both teams to be found in the same region, but also in terms of the table.
For both teams the hard everyday life is called “relegation fight”. The hosts from Cadiz are currently in penultimate place as 19th in the table. Granada’s position 15 sounds much better, but the gap between the two teams is just three points. The poor record at home is particularly striking. Cervera’s two victories so far this season have both come away from home (against Celta Vigo and Athletic Bilbao). At home, the record is sobering and none of the eight home games so far ended with a win. Four times they have managed to pick up a point, while another four times Cadiz have conceded a defeat.
At the same time, just five meagre goals have been scored in these eight home games. This makes the team at the bottom of the table the weakest home team in the league. Accordingly, there is no value to be found in betting on a home win for Cadiz against Granada.
Three high defeats in a row
In addition to the weak home record, the last few games also clearly speak against a prediction on the home side. In the last three league games, Cadiz conceded three clear defeats. Goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma had to make no less than eleven saves against Getafe, Atletico Madrid and Elche. The games against Getafe and Elche were against direct competitors in the relegation battle.

Granada – Statistics & current form
For the red and whites from Granada, the statement “not matching last year’s performances” is absolutely true as well. After successful coach Diego Martinez left the club of his own free will at the end of last season, Roberto Moreno was introduced as his successor. So far, his record is not very convincing and compared to last year, Granada even have nine points less to show on their credit side.
Upward trend is visible
And yet there is a big difference to the hosts. While the home side have suffered three heavy defeats in a row, Granada are moving in the right direction. After four defeats in the first seven league games, Granada recently lost only two of the last eight league games.
However, this compares to three wins and three draws. The current momentum is certainly in favour of the visitors, so with a little bit of risk, a prediction on the away win can be recommended for Cadiz against Granada. A bet on the draw-no-bet market in favour of Granada is definitely a good idea, as the hosts are still winless at home and a draw would result in a cash back.
Away they won’t wait long
Attention-grabbing feature of the Moreno eleven in the away games so far (record 1-4-3) is that there is no lengthy feeling out, but rather relatively early risk is taken and goals result from this.
