Will Spurs strike back under Antonio Conte?

After five defeats from the first ten league games, those in charge in the north of London had had enough: after the 0:3 home defeat against the also struggling runners-up Manchester United, Nuno Espírito Santo had to pack his bags. The eccentric Antonio Conte, who most recently led arch-rivals Chelsea to the championship in 2017 and bid farewell to Milan with the Scudetto this summer, took over.

The Italian was on the bench for the first time on Thursday night in the Conference League against Vitesse Arnhem (final score: 3-2). Now he is expected to get the Lilywhites back on track in league play. In the run-up to the match between Everton and Tottenham, the odds are swinging in Spurs’ favour.

Finally, things have been anything but smooth for the Toffees of late. Everton lost their last three league games in a row by 3:8 goals, although the opponents with West Ham, Watford and Wolverhampton were by no means among the top teams in the league. Accordingly, Rafael Benítez, who was signed by the Blues in the summer, is currently on the dole.

We see a lot of value in betting on an away win for the Lilywhites against Tottenham at Everton.

Everton – Statistics & current form

Everton Football Club have won the English Championship nine times and the FA Cup five times. The Bues, who also won the European Cup Winners’ Cup on Merseyside in 1985, are one of the more successful clubs in the self-proclaimed motherland of football.

As a founder member of the Football League, the Toffees have only spent two years in the second tier, giving them the most years in the country’s top flight in the whole of England.

Only four wins from first ten league games

All this praise has not helped the traditional Liverpool club in recent years, however, as Everton have not enjoyed any notable successes in recent years. In 2014/15, the Blues reached the last 16 of the Europa League after finishing fifth in the league.

Most recently, however, the Toffees have finished three seasons in a row in double figures. This summer, Carlo Ancelotti was replaced by another heavyweight, Rafael Benítez. After ten match days, however, the team is once again only in tenth place in the table.

Nine home defeats in the 2021 calendar year

After a promising start to the season, they have recently suffered three defeats in a row. Now, of all times, the Spurs are a kind of fearful opponent at Goodison Park. The Blues have not won any of their last eight home games against the North Londoners (five draws, three defeats).

Accordingly, the Merseyside outfit, who have already lost nine home games in the 2021 calendar year – only three times in the club’s 143-year history have there been more home defeats in a single year – are only outsiders at their own stadium.

Predicted Everton line-up:

Pickford – Godfrey – Holgate – Keane – Coleman – Iwobi – Allan – Gbamin – Townsend – Gray – Richarlison

Last games played by Everton:

Premier League
11/01 2021 – Wolverhampton 2 – 1 Everton

10/23 2021 – Everton 2 – 5 Watford

10/17 2021 – Everton 0 – 1 West Ham

10/02 2021 – Manchester United 1 – 1 Everton

09/25 2021 – Everton 2 – 0 Norwich

Tottenham – Statistics & current form

Tottenham Hotspur have now waited 60 years for another league title in England. It has also been 30 years since Spurs last notable success, when they won the FA Cup for the eighth and last time in the summer of 1991.

Since then, the players from the north London borough of Haringey have shown their mettle every now and then – for example, when they finished runners-up in 2017 or reached the Champions League final in 2019 – but in the end they have always lacked the decisive nuances to reward themselves with a title.

Lost five of the first ten league games

Lately, even a starting coach like José Mourinho could not lead the Lilywhites back to the top, who was relieved of his duties prematurely in the home stretch of pre-season. The Spurs were subsequently able to loosen the coach of their choice, Nuno Espíritu Santo, from Wolverhampton. But the Portuguese has also been history since last weekend.

Because five of the first ten league games were lost, with the otherwise so offensively strong Spurs scoring just nine goals, Antonio Conte took over. The eccentric Italian made his first appearance on the bench in Thursday night’s 3-2 win over Vitesse Arnhem in the Conference League and is now set to make his league debut for the Lilywhites.

Will Kane get his act together again under Conte?

Whether Everton’s tip 2 against Tottenham pans out and the north Londoners turn the corner under the coach who led Chelsea to the championship in 2017 will depend largely on whether Harry Kane gets back into scoring form.

In Nuno Espíritu Santo’s system, the Lilywhites’ long-time goal-scorer managed just one goal in nine appearances. It is against the Toffees, of all teams, against whom he scored eleven times in twelve Premier League games, that Kane is expected to break the mould.

Predicted Tottenham line-up:
Lloris – Reguilón – Romero – Sánchez – Royal – Winks – Ndombélé – Son – Höjbjerg – Moura – Kane

European Conference League Grp. G
11/04 2021 – Tottenham 3 – 2 Vitesse Arnhem

10/30 2021 – Tottenham 0 – 3 Manchester United

Carabao Cup
10/27 2021 – Burnley 0 – 1 Tottenham

10/24 2021 – West Ham 1 – 0 Tottenham

European Conference League Grp. G

Everton – Tottenham Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

Head to head: 57 – 57 – 68

There have been a total of 182 meetings between the two teams so far and the Blues lead the head-to-head comparison with 68 wins. Recently, however, Everton have had little to gain against Spurs. Of the last 17 Premier League games against Tottenham, the Toffees have won just one (eight defeats, eight draws).

Everton – Tottenham Tip

When it comes to Everton vs Tottenham, on the one hand the prediction has to take into account the clear tendency towards Spurs from the most recent direct comparison between the two teams. On the other hand, it should be noted that after three defeats in a row with a total of eight goals conceded, the Blues go into this home match without momentum against an opponent who comes to Goodison Park as a colourful grab bag after the coaching change.

Thus, there is a lot to be said for the North Londoners making as good a debut in league action under their new coach as they did on Thursday night in the Conference League. Accordingly, the bet on an away win for Spurs is a good one to play.
