With Euro momentum to Bochum
As a promoted team, you are often a little dependent on how well you take the euphoria with you and how strongly your own fans push you. In the current times, it was of course difficult to take the supporters with us on the trip, but on Sunday, up to 20,000 spectators are expected at the Ruhstadion, who are looking forward to a Bundesliga match.
VfL Bochum will hope to pull away from the relegation places in the standings with a home win. With seven points from eight games, the promoted side are 15th, just above the red line.
This is also the case on Sunday, when Eintracht Frankfurt are expected at Castroper Straße. The Hessians are presenting themselves like a moody diva at the moment and are therefore difficult to assess. If they play up to their potential, then the forecast for the match between Bochum and Frankfurt is clearly in favour of a win for the visitors.
Not many goals should be expected, however, as the two opponents are the teams that have created the fewest major chances this season. With this in mind, it makes sense to place a bet on less than 2.5 goals in the Bundesliga match between Bochum and Frankfurt.
Bochum – Statistics & current form
Sometimes it takes a little while to adapt to the changed way of playing in another class. Perhaps that is the case with VfL Bochum now, as Thomas Reis’ eleven managed to score in two consecutive matches for the first time. There is a mood of optimism at Castroper Straße, which will be underpinned by numerous spectators on Sunday.
With Gamboa to victory
The Revierklub will be pleased to have Cristian Gamboa, a two-time World Cup participant, back fit. The cafetero has played three games this season and VfL have won twice of them. The full-back is therefore the guarantor for a successful game and yet we are not inclined to play the odds on a home win between Bochum and Frankfurt.
Last weekend, Bochum hosted Fürth Ronhof in a duel of the promoted teams. Both teams remain relegation candidates, and that is precisely why the VfL victory in this direct duel was extremely important. Once again, captain Anthony Losilla marched ahead and scored the decisive goal in the 1:0 away victory.
If we take a look at Bochum’s injured camp, it becomes clear that numerous key players from the previous season and thus promotion heroes are currently unavailable. Herbert Bockhorn, Maxim Leitsch, Robert Tesche and Simon Zoller are all missing due to injury. In addition, Armel Bella Kotchap is out of form, so that the starting eleven has little to do with last year’s regular formation.
Predicted Bochum line-up:
Riemann Gamboa, Masovic, Lampropoulos, Danilo Soares – Losilla – Löwen, Rexhbecaj, Asano, Holtmann – Polter – Coach: Reis

Frankfurt – Statistics & current form
It is quite strange what kind of results Eintracht Frankfurt achieve this season. On the one hand they beat European top teams, on the other hand they lose against relegation candidates and in between they just play a series of games that all end with a 1-1 draw.
Always on Sundays
At the same time, the Hessians have what it takes to perform at a high level. After all, they have only lost one of their last ten games, including defeating FC Bayern at the Allianz Arena. Under normal circumstances, the prediction for the match between Bochum and Frankfurt must therefore be an away win.
On Thursday, Eintracht showed its very good side again. In the Europa League, there was a 3:1 home victory against the Greek champions Olympiakos Piraeus, who usually kick in the Champions League. Rafael Borre, Almamy Toure and Daichi Kamada scored the goals that secured an important three-goal victory in the race to advance.
The fact that they are playing in the European Cup on Sunday suits the Hessians. Eintracht have not lost on Sundays for nine games. Another positive aspect is that captain Sebastian Rode may make his comeback. This means that only Aymen Barkok and Christopher Lenz are still in the Frankfurt lazaretto.
Predicted Frankfurt line-up:
Trapp – Durm, Ilsanker, Hinteregger, Ndicka – Sow, Rode, Kamada, Kostic – Borre, Paciencia – Coach: Glasner
Last matches played by Frankfurt:
Europa League Grp. D
10/21 2021 – Eintracht Frankfurt 3 – 1 Olympiakos Piraeus

10/16 2021 – Eintracht Frankfurt 1 – 2 Hertha Berlin
10/03 2021 – Bayern Munich 1 – 2 Eintracht Frankfurt
Europa League Grp. D
09/30 2021 – Antwerp 0 – 1 Eintracht Frankfurt

Bochum – Frankfurt Direct comparison / H2H-Balance
Four duels took place in the second Bundesliga, three in the DFB Pokal – the remaining 60 games between VfL Bochum and Eintracht Frankfurt were all played in the top flight. The Revierklub has not won more against any other team in the Bundesliga. The direct comparison, however, is in favour of Eintracht with 28:24 wins and 15 draws.
However, Frankfurt have won all of their last five competitive matches against VfL, twice in the Bundesliga, twice in League Two and once in the cup. The last ever meeting was the second round match in the DFB Pokal in September 2013, when Frankfurt won 2-0 after goals from Takashi Inui and Stefan Aigner.
Bochum – Frankfurt tip
VfL Bochum have scored in their last two points matches. This is the first time they have ever managed to do so this season and they will now be looking to build on that with an almost full house at Castroper Straße.
That means we consider the last defeat in Berlin a slip-up. After all, they won at Bayern Munich before that and also got the upper hand against Olympiakos Piraeus on Thursday. This means there has only been one defeat in their last eleven games and therefore we are clearly leaning towards betting odds on an away win in the Bochum vs Frankfurt match.
In our opinion, Bochum will have to look for other opponents to win against. There are still a few candidates in the relegation battle. Eintracht should perhaps be out of their league after their recent performances. That’s why we’re playing the betting odds on a win for the visitors between Bochum and Frankfurt.
