German taint in the Europa League
For some, the Champions League with its investors and the horrendous sums of money that flow there is far too aloof and is getting closer and closer to the Super League. On the other hand, there’s the Conference League, whose participants don’t really knock the socks off football fans. On the other hand, the Europa League is apparently becoming more and more attractive.
Of course, the teams in the Europa League also want to get their hands on the meat of the top flight, but from a sporting point of view, a group with PSV Eindhoven, AS Monaco, Real Sociedad San Sebastian and Sturm Graz sounds extremely attractive. Each duel in itself sounds exciting. From a German perspective, this is especially true for the match between PSV Eindhoven and AS Monaco.
There are numerous German players on both sides, starting with the coaches Roger Schmidt and the German-Croat Niko Kovac. In addition, several German players will be on the pitch on Thursday. That’s why it’s not too difficult to make a prediction between PSV Eindhoven and Monaco, namely that some Germans could end up cheering.
In the table of this group, PSV and ASM are ahead after two matchdays with four points each. Real Sociedad are on two points, Graz are still without a point.
PSV Eindhoven – Statistics & current form
In the Dutch Eredivisie this season, everything points to a duel between Ajax Amsterdam and PSV Eindhoven in the title race. Roger Schmidt’s team are currently in second place with 21 points, one less than their opponents.
Running at PSV
The table situation, however, already shows that PSV is on a good run at the moment. In the 18 competitive matches of the season, there have only been three defeats. Most recently, however, Roger Schmidt’s team has won three in a row, so it seems advisable to take a close look at the odds on a home win in the PSV Eindhoven vs. Monaco match.
Last weekend, however, PSV found it extremely difficult at home against Zwolle. The visitors took the lead after just three minutes and for a long time it looked as if Eindhoven would cut their teeth. It was not until the last ten minutes that the dams broke as Andre Ramalho, Cody Gakpo and Olivier Boscagli scored goals to secure a 3-1 win.
The attacking wingers Cody Gakpo and Noni Madueke have been struggling lately. Both played against Zwolle but were not as effective as usual. That could change again on Thursday after a few days off. Both are expected to be in the starting eleven. That means that with Ritsu Doan and Richard Ledezma only two players should be missing due to injury. Ibrahim Sangare is also serving a suspension.
Predicted line-up of PSV Eindhoven:
Drommel – Max, Boscagli, Ramalho, Mwene – Pröpper, van Ginkel – Götze, Gakpo, Madueke – Zahavi – Coach: Schmidt

Monaco – Statistics & current form
AS Monaco have made a slow start to the new season. The team of Niko Kovac has lost the participation in the Champions League and also in the French Ligue 1 one can speak confidently of a false start. Only now are the Monegasques slowly gaining momentum and starting to catch up.
Backlash in Lyon
In the Ligue 1 table, Monaco are just in tenth place. It’s still very tight in French football overall, so you can climb quickly with a series. After all, ASM have only lost one of their last seven games, so it is quite plausible to predict a point win for the visitors between PSV Eindhoven and Monaco.
Last weekend, the Monegasques had a similarly difficult game ahead of them as they do now in Eindhoven on Thursday. The Kovac team was the guest of Olympique Lyon. It was a match of equals, but with slight but obvious advantages for OL. In the end, Monaco had to admit defeat with 0:2, even if at least a point would have been possible.
Niko Kovac will not be able to bring his ideal team onto the pitch on Thursday. With Jean Marcelin, Djibril Sidibe and Aleksandr Golovin, three injured players will not be playing. We expect the face of the team in Eindhoven to be very similar to the defeat in Lyon.
Predicted line-up of Monaco:
Nübel – Caio Henrique, Badiashile, Disasi, Aguilar – Fofana, Jean Lucas, Matazo, Martins – Ben Yedder, Volland – Coach: Kovac
Last matches played by Monaco:
Ligue 1
10/16 2021 – Lyon 2 – 0 AS Monaco
10/03 2021 – AS Monaco 3 – 0 Bordeaux
Europa League Grp. B
09/30 2021 – San Sebastian 1 – 1 AS Monaco

09/26 2021 – Clermont Foot 1 – 3 AS Monaco
09/22 2021 – AS Monaco 3 – 1 Saint-Etienne

PSV Eindhoven and AS Monaco actually have the ambition to play for the championship in the national leagues and to qualify for the Champions League. Thus, the only four competitive matches between these two clubs have also been in the top flight. However, these duels took place almost 20 years ago.
After that, there were two more test matches in 2015 and 2017. In the direct comparison, both clubs are tied. After victories, the score is 2:2, plus there have been two draws and the goal difference is also even with 6:6 goals. From the direct comparison, there are no indications for next Thursday’s match.
PSV Eindhoven – Monaco tip
The quotes in the popular betting apps show that PSV Eindhoven are slightly favoured in this duel. This is probably due to the fact that Roger Schmidt’s team has celebrated three wins in a row recently. Nevertheless, it is not our first choice to bet on a home win in this Europa League duel.
The Monegasques also have great potential and we think it is conceivable that both teams will go hand in hand into the next round. We see both teams on about the same level and therefore we hold back and do not place a bet on the outcome of the match in the duel PSV Eindhoven vs Monaco.
But we think that both teams have enormous qualities in the offensive. Therefore, we can imagine that possibly more than 2.5 goals will be scored. We also assume that neither team will go without conceding a goal, which is why we have decided to play the betting odds on both teams to score between PSV Eindhoven and Monaco.
