Do the Rams also dominate the Colts?
NFL Game Week 2 also has a number of exciting games to offer. One of them is certainly the duel of the Indianapolis Colts against the Los Angeles Rams. Both teams reached the playoffs last year and for both that is also the declared goal this season.
But the Rams definitely seem to be closer, as they ate up the Chicago Bears by every trick in the book on Game Day 1. In the clear 34:14 victory, new quarterback Matthew Stafford gave the impression that he was exactly the playmaker that the Rams lacked in previous years to make it big.
The Colts also had a new man at the quarterback position on Sunday, but Carson Wentz could not yet put the stamp on the Colts’ game that they needed against the Seahawks. So Indy lost quite clearly with 16:28.
For next Sunday’s game we see LA with clear advantages, precisely because of this impression from Game Day 1 and because we generally see the Rams as one of the big secret favourites for the Super Bowl.
For Colts vs. Rams, our prediction is a win for the away team, which should also come with at least a field goal difference. So even bets with a slight handicap for the Rams are still recommended.
Kickoff of the top game of NFL Week 2 is on Sunday at 19:00 and the game will be broadcast live on DAZN’s RedZone with German commentary. Many other NFL Game Week 2 games including Thursday and Monday Night Game are also on the betting base.
United States Indianapolis Colts – Statistics & current form
The Colts were far from being able to match their performances from the previous season on matchday 1. On the one hand, this was due to the strong Seahawks, of course, but on the other hand also numerous simple mistakes, both offensively and defensively.
The big plays alone that they allowed on third down attempts, including a 69-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett – such actions sabotage all the rest of their defensive work. Their defense also stood strong against the run, allowing 140 rushing yards.
Is the defence still the showpiece?
In our preview last week we talked about a very strong Colts defence, but we have to admit that it looked much weaker than in 2020. Whether that was just a snapshot remains to be seen.
So in any case, the pressure on Wentz offensively will be enormous to win the game with his arm – and he is not known to be the strongest in pressure situations. So our thesis is: If the Colts defence doesn’t catch itself again, it will even be tight with the postseason.
Matchup doesn’t suit Indianapolis
It’s a bad coincidence that one of the NFL’s hottest offensive teams is coming to Indianapolis on Sunday. Matthew Stafford, for example, threw for 321 yards without a single interception against Chicago.
That raises fears of some counter points for Indy again, especially since this matchup doesn’t exactly suit the Colts historically either. In the last two meetings they conceded an average of 42 points This cannot be completely ruled out for Sunday either.
In addition to betting on Los Angeles, betting on many touchdowns is also a nice alternative for Colts vs. Because we think it is almost impossible that the Colts will allow less than four TDs.
Key Players:
– QB: Carson Wentz
– RB: Jonathan Taylor
– WR: Michael Pittman Jr.
– TE: Jack Doyle
– K: Rodrigo Blankenship
United States Los Angeles Rams – Statistics & current form
This was a true show of power by the Rams on the first Match Day of the new NFL season. Against a high stakes Bears team, they put up 34 points and allowed just 14 in return. It was only one game, but it should worry a lot of other teams.
Because the big question in the offseason was: have the Rams finally found the quarterback they’ve always lacked in Matthew Stafford? If Stafford continues to answer that question so clearly in the affirmative, then they will be considered one of the top favourites this season.
Stafford already very well in tune
It was impressive how quickly the offense was set up perfectly by new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. So well, in fact, that the quarterback ended up with a passer rating of 156.1. Remember, the scale only goes up to 158.3.
So Stafford was already close to perfect, which means that a lot can be expected for Sunday as well. Especially the connection with wide receiver Cooper Kupp seems to work great, which he underlined with 108 yards and a strong 56 yards TD catch.
The Colts’ running game must be stopped
For Sunday, we see only one small weakness they need to get closed: their defense against the run. They allowed 134 yards against the Bears, which is too many. Since the Colts also have an excellent running back in Jonathan Taylor, they have to be vigilant here.
However, if they hold Indianapolis to under 100 rushing yards, there is not much to worry about. Thus, the odds on LA are also clear favourites in Colts vs. Rams, even with a handicap of four to five points still.
Key Players:
– QB: Matthew Stafford
– RB: Darrell Henderson
– WR: Robert Woods
– WR: Cooper Kupp
– K: Matt Gay
Indianapolis Colts – Los Angeles Rams Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
The past duels of these two teams always had it in them, even if they had only played each other once every four years. Most of the time they were slaughter fests, with one team winning by a large margin.
In the two previous duels, this was LA in each case, once by 30 and once by as much as 37 points. We don’t think the difference will be that big, but a clear success for Head Coach Sean McVay’s men is not out of the question
United States Indianapolis Colts – Los Angeles Rams United States Tip
The direct comparison is in favour of the Rams, the performance on matchday 1 as well – and even if we look at the two quarterbacks, we find a clear overweight in favour of the franchise from the City of Angels.
So for us there is only one winner on Sunday: LA. How big the victory will be, however, is the question. However, with Indy vs. LA, the betting odds on Rams -4 still yield a good value, we would issue this bet as our betting recommendation.
In addition to betting stakes on LA, betting on a receiving touchdown from Cooper Kupp is also an option. The impressed all over last Sunday and has already developed great chemistry with Stafford. Another visit to the end zone on game day 2 seems quite possible.
