On Thursday evening, 17.06.2021 at 9 pm, the national teams from Holland and Austria will play their second game at the European Championships at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam. The de Boer-Elf has been unbeaten for six consecutive international matches due to the opening victory at the EURO and lost only the first World Cup qualifying game in Turkey in 2021. Two victories were expected against Latvia and Gibraltar in the qualifying and friendly matches against Scotland (2:2) and Oranje remained unbeaten in the European Championship rehearsal against Georgia (3:0). The 3-2 victory against Ukraine was the first European Championship victory since 2008 for the Dutch.
Matthijs de Ligt of the Italian traditional club Juventus Turin suffers from a groin injury and is also likely to be out for the second group match against Austria.

Franco Foda’s national team started against Northern Macedonia with nine Bundesliga players. With the exception of Ulmer and Bachmann, they all play in the German league. The ÖFB-Elf started with a lot of possession and was always looking for VfB forward Kalajdzic with high balls in the lead. The EM newcomer acted courageously and made life difficult for Austria. Nevertheless, the favourite went earned by Lainer with 1:0 in front (18th). A few turns later, Kalajdzic slammed the leather right at goalkeeper Dimitrievski and quickly missed it (22.). In the second 45 minutes, the red-white-reds were nervous and made too many mistakes in the setup game. North Macedonia proved to be an unpleasant opponent until Coach Foda turned around in the offensive and replaced victory with Gregoritsch and Arnautovic. Nikolov first failed at Ösi-Schlussmann Bachmann (63rd), before on the opposite side Gregoritsch almost headed 2-1 for Austria (65th).
