Who will confirm their good form in the hate duel?

One of the most pronounced rivalries in English football is undoubtedly between Liverpool and Manchester United. On the one hand, it is about which of the two cities is really the economic and cultural centre in the north of the island. On the other hand, the respective clubs are of course also dueling for sporting supremacy in the motherland of football. Currently, Manchester United are just ahead with 20 league titles, while LFC have won 19 titles in the top flight.

Looking at the current Premier League standings, the Red Devils also tend to have the momentum on their side. Erik ten Hag’s side are ten points clear of the Reds, who have taken ten points from their last four league games and have not conceded a goal in four in a row.

In addition, Klopp’s side are traditionally much stronger at home than away, so the slightly lower odds on Liverpool vs. Manchester United betting in favour of the home side from the Beatles City are not entirely unfounded.

It is also clear, however, that the visitors from the industrial city also arrive with the recommendation of ten points from the last four Premier League matches, also eliminated FC Barcelona in the Europa League and, incidentally, are the best team since the re-start after the World Cup break in the English top flight.

Because the bottom line is that there are too many contingencies that could affect the outcome of the match, we believe that between Liverpool and Manchester United, a prediction on the three-way market entails too much risk. Instead, it is conceivable to bet on a relatively high number of goals, as both teams have great qualities especially on the offensive side.

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

In recent weeks, Liverpool Football Club has been the subject of much derision. So-called pundits have already started a swansong for Jürgen Klopp, arguing in many cases that the player personnel is simply no longer sufficient to play a good role in the Premier League and/or Champions League.

While those critics were vindicated after the disgraceful 2:5 in the round of 16 first leg at Anfield Road against Real Madrid, things have been going according to plan in the league recently. Ten points from the last four games is a strong result. Especially considering that keeper Alisson Becker has gone four consecutive games without conceding a goal, taking his tally to five clean sheets in the past six PL encounters.

Liverpool are far from giving up on fourth place

However, this run of success should not be overestimated, because with the exception of the 2-0 win at Newcastle United, the Reds have almost exclusively had to deal with teams with poor form that are behind them in the standings. That will change next Sunday.

The hate duel against the Red Devils is on the agenda and, looking at the standings, the odds on a home win between Liverpool and Manchester United should prove true from the home side’s point of view, so that the Scousers can continue to clutch at the last straw towards the top four. With Tottenham (4th) just six points behind and a game to make up, Klopp’s side have made an impressive comeback in the race for the last Champions League ticket for 2023/24.

Mo Salah particularly fond of scoring against arch-rivals

The fact that LFC are not even necessarily seen as underdogs in the context of Matchday 26 in the Premier League, but are even slightly favoured, is primarily due to their strong home record of eight wins, three draws and only one defeat in twelve league home games. In addition, the Reds have not lost any of the last six matches at home against ManUtd and have also not lost on Sundays seven times in a row in this derby.

On a positive note, Klopp’s side have scored at least twice in four of their last five PL home matches and have the third-best home attacking total. This is closely linked to Mo Salah, who can even call himself Liverpool’s all-time scorer against the Red Devils with a total of ten goals. The Egyptian has scored nine of the aforementioned ten goals in his five most recent direct encounters.

Manchester United – Statistics & current form

Manchester United came within a whisker of disappointment during the week. The English record champions were 1-0 down against West Ham United in front of their own fans in the FA Cup last 16 until the 77th minute on Wednesday night, when an own goal from Aguerd and goals from Garnacho and Fred swung the pendulum in the ten Hag side’s favour. The strong final phase of the 3-1 win underlined once again the brilliant form in which the world club currently finds itself.

Like LFC, the Red Devils have taken ten points from their last four league games. In addition, they made it to the last 16 of the Europa League against the great FC Barcelona and also lifted the Carabao Cup a week ago. There is definitely no lack of self-confidence. We would therefore be very cautious about making a prediction in the direction of the hosts between Liverpool and Manchester United.

Manchester Utd the measure of all things after the World Cup

The impressive performance of the former European Cup winners is further illustrated by the fact that they have averaged a sensational 2.32 points in 41 games across the competition under the Dutch coach. No other team has scored more points after the World Cup break than the red devils, who have also lost only one of their last eleven Premier League matches (2:3 against Arsenal) and are now even unbeaten in eleven matches in a row.

It would be unfair to single out one part of the team in particular. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the current third-placed team has only failed to score in three of 41 (!) matches since the summer. In the past 15 PL games, too, they have always scored at least one goal. In nine of the most recent eleven matches at league level, they have always scored two or more goals of their own.

Rashford scores and scores and scores

Given these statistics and the fact that the Over 2.5 goals mark has been cracked in nine of United’s last twelve must-win games, odds on three or more goals in the match definitely seem interesting between Liverpool and Manchester United. Those looking to play the isolated over bet can also do so at new betting provider Winamax, for example.

Not least because Marcus Rashford is perhaps at the zenith of his career at the moment. The international has scored ten goals in his last ten Premier League games, has scored five in a row in the league and even has six goals against LFC to his name since the start of the 2017/18 season – albeit all at Old Trafford…

Liverpool – Manchester United Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

Liverpool vs Manchester United is undoubtedly one of the hottest, if not the hottest derby in the English top flight. The clubs, who have a combined 39 league titles, have already played 175 matches at league level. The Red Devils have the lead in the direct comparison with 67 victories. However, only 18 of those 67 victories have come at Anfield Road.

The football temple in the Beatles’ city has also been a red rag for United in the recent past. For six PL games now, Manchester has been waiting for a three-goal win at LFC (three draws, three defeats). In the last seven appearances at Anfield, the record champions have scored only one goal.

However, ten Hag’s team won the first leg 2-1 this season and finally left the pitch as winners after eight league encounters in a row without a win. Also interesting: In the last four encounters, there have always been at least three goals scored across the competition. In fact, they have scored a total of 23 goals, an average of almost five per encounter.

Liverpool – Manchester United Tip

It’s that time again on Sunday afternoon at 17:30. The hate derby that electrifies the masses on the island is upon us. Liverpool will meet Manchester United. According to the betting odds, coach Jürgen Klopp’s home side actually have the slightly better chance of winning. A daring thesis, considering that the visitors are unbeaten in eleven matches since 22 January.

This is one of the reasons why we deliberately refrain from betting on the winner. Both teams are in good Premier League form going into this clash, having picked up ten points from each of their last four games and generally performing well offensively. While the Reds’ home strength has to be listed as a potential sticking point, anything is possible for the ten Hag side in their current form.

We have therefore opted for a compromise and are playing the betting between Liverpool and Manchester United on both teams scoring and at least three goals being scored in the course of the match. In nine of the last twelve MUFC must-win games, the over 2.5 would have gone through, plus LFC provide the league’s third-best home attack, always scoring twice in four of the last five PL games.
